About Biotal Marine

For over 34 years, Biotal Marine has developed biological cleaning products for the commercial shipping industry. '

Our focus is solving the cleaning, sanitation and compliance challenges that ships, tankers and offshore vessels face every day - using science-led formulations developed and tested in our own laboratories.

At a glance

Science-led by design

Application-specific bacterial strains and eco-benign® chemistry, formulated for marine systems rather than adapted from general industrial products.

Developed in-house

Research, formulation and biological validation carried out in our own laboratories in Europe and the United States.

Focused product range

Specialised products covering engine room, galley, marine sanitation and housekeeping - rather than a broad, generic chemical catalogue.

Environmentally responsible

No solvents, acids, phosphates or EDTA. Designed for full biodegradation rather than just regulatory minimums.

Award-winning technologies

In-house research and formulation, on both sides of the Atlantic

All research, development and formulation is carried out in our own laboratories in Europe and the United States.

This means every Biotal Marine product, from initial bacterial strain selection to final formulation, is developed and tested under our control. No outsourced contract manufacturing, no licensed-in chemistry from other industries.

Our technical teams work directly with ship owners, operators and OEMs across Europe, North America, the Baltic and the Gulf, building a working understanding of real shipboard conditions. This practical insight shapes our development priorities - we build products for problems we've seen on board, not generic use cases.

eco-benign® technologies

eco-benign® chemistry is central to our approach. It considers not only biodegradability, but also toxicity, environmental behaviour and long-term sustainability.

We do not use solvents (including glycol ethers), acids, phosphates or EDTA.

Our eco-benign® chemistry is designed to support biological activity rather than inhibit it - which means our chemical and biological products work together rather than against each other. The same approach makes them suitable for offshore use where environmental scrutiny is highest.
